Is it common for cats with a UTI to urinate outside the litter box?

My ill-starred himalayan has an urinary tract infection and is on medicine for it. She is urinating face outside her litter box, in the shower and on the carpet. When her infection is gone will her improper urinating stop? I do not think cleanliness is an issue for the urinating.
Yes- this is a quandary with UTIs- because your cat is having difficulty and pain when she urinates, she mignonne much goes when she can, where she can.

My male cat had a UTI and now refuses to use a litter box. How can I make him start using the box again?

He will use the space around the box but not in the box. The vet told me that when he sees the litter box, to him it means pain. How do I teach my cat that it is a ethical idea to use the litter box?
This is puzzling and the vet is 100% right - he's asociating his pan with pain. The only suggestions I have is to try a bizarre type of pan, size, color, and put it in another spot. At least he's "sign" to the pan. You may also want to try putting just a small amount
