How should I go about litter box training a kitten that doesn't know how?

The other day me and my mom found a kitten in the hood of her car. So, we have no object where the mother is. The kitten maybe had not been around its mother long enough to learn how to use the litterbox. We've gotten it to eat and draught but it won't go to the bathroom.

I was troubled at first that the kitten might be too young to go to the bathroom on its own, but if it's eating food and water, then it is old enough to potty on its own.
