CFC marches to save lives and family pets

Volunteers for the Children and Relations Center observed October Domestic Violence Month by walking dogs in Northwest’s homecoming cortege on Saturday and acknowledged the implementation of their newest project Pets and Women’s Asylum, PAWS.
CFC received a $2,500 grant to construct a space in a new garage to domicile the pets and create an area for individuals or families to play with their pets while they are in the home.
There are approximately 2,000 domestic violence shelters in the U.S. According to CFC, there are currently, 60 shelters that brook pets. When CFC received this grant, they were the only shelter between Nevada and Ohio that was an approved PAWS harbour.
Approximately 78% of women entering domestic violence shelters dispatch that a partner has threatened, injured, or killed the family pet. Over 20% of victims have delayed their resolving to leave or have gone back to their abuser because of their concern for their pet, according to the National Resource Center on House-broken Violence.
