How do I get my 7 week old kitten to use the litter box?

My kitten refuses to use the litter box, He only does his buisness on newspaper. I tried putting periodical down on the kitty litter, that worked well, but when i took the paper away he didnt require anything to do with it. any tips on what methods i could use?

As you can see, a 7 week old kitten is not reliably litter trained. Why people exhort on yanking them from their mom and sending them home too early is beyond me. A kitten won't have the litter box mastered until sometime after 8 weeks or so.

It tries to eat the litter and use the dumfound when it has to go! I thought cats just "knew" and trained theirselves???.. Please pinch.. thanks!!
