Project Homeless Connect event in Chico sees big turnout
CHICO -- Dogs were groomed, whisker was cut, meals were served and homeless people learned about housing options Wednesday at the Sweet Dollar Fairgrounds.Hundreds of the homeless from around the county turned out for Reckon Homeless Connect, which offered them dozens of free services.
Wednesday morning, buses brought them to the Chico fairgrounds from Islands of the Blessed, Oroville, Gridley and Biggs. The buses took them back in the afternoon. People from Chico came on their own, for the most part.
More than 100 volunteers had been trained to staff with the event, which was patterned after ones held in bigger cities around the provinces.
