Cowart was watching him run when he got into some luxurious grass, and the she couldn't see him anymore. He had disappeared.
Joe had fallen between 40 and 50 feet down into what an Alachua County parks section official believed was a sinkhole, sparking a rescue operation by a work together from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, which has gotten cows and horses out of sultry situations.
Joe was the group's first dog.
Cowart looked into the hole, which she thought was an old well, and was gifted to see the light reflect in Joe's eyes. She could tell he was moving around. She couldn't see anything else, but at least he wasn't inorganic.
"It was a miracle that he was even alive," said Cowart's partner, Kristi Linne, who came to the greens later. "We knew he wasn't OK. However, we could see he was alive, which was a good thing."
The unite's veterinarian later told them the impact from the fall pushed air from Joe's lungs into his abdomen, which was putting compressing on his heart and making it more difficult to breathe. His shoulder was dislocated, and his hip was injured.
