Can unvaccinated puppies get sick from using hand me down dog items such as a metal training/exercise pen?

I bought an alternate one hand on ebay and I am worried about my new puppy could get parvo and other diseases of the dog to use another old dog pen. These diseases can move like that? Will ordinary disinfectant to get rid of anything that could there be?
Not more than mixing a little water, concentrated bleach, take the pen in the backyard, the bleach and let dry. Whiten kills parvo and almost any other disease or bacteria known to man. Like eating its heart as you clean it well you will not have problems.
